PROPORTION - The way we show objects in relation to one another; size, shape, etc.

TONAL RANGE - Various shades of grey between absolute black and absolute white.

COMPOSITION - The placement of line , shape, color and value in a work of art; basically the total design.

LINE - A mark made by a pencil, brush, tool, etc., forming a part of a design . What we see as a line is actually where two objects meet.

FORM -Pertains to the shape and structure of a particular object.

GESTURE -Applies to a bodily motion or posture intended to express or emphasize expression.

CONTOUR - (Outline) A line which defines the shape of an object.

LINEAR PERSPECTIVE - The way we show objects in proportion to one another as they recede to a distant point.

VANISHING POINT - The point on the horizon line where parallel lines appear to vanish.

FORESHORTENING - Perspective on the human body. The study of how proportions change as the body moves from a standing position.

SKETCH - A rapid drawing or painting. This may be complete in itself or used for a more detailed project.

CONTRAST - A line, shape, color or value that differs from those which are dominant in the work.
