RUGE RULES
More
than twenty years after his death, Ferdinand E. Ruge (1900-1977) lives on
as one of the greatest teachers - and most lasting influences - in the
history of St. Albans School.
During the course of his forty-four
years at St. Albans, Mr. Ruge laid out many other rules to aid his
students in their pursuit of this noble if elusive goal, rules that were
first collected and published in 1979, following his death. The
rules remain concise and vivid today, and convey, in the words of one Mr.
Ruge's former pupils, novelist John Casey, much of "the snap and the
style" of the man who taught them.
