The Jill Bailey Chenet
Scholarship Fund

Jill Bailey Chenet, our valued and beloved, long-time second grade teacher, passed away on July 25, as a result of a drowning incident while on vacation with her husband, Matt, in the Outer Banks. 

With the guidance of Jill's family, the school has established The Jill Bailey Chenet Scholarship Fund in memory of Jill. This fund will provide educational support for children in need to attend The River School.

Words cannot fully express our grief about this profound sense of loss. Jill dedicated her career to her students, bringing them to their fullest potential with joy and a sense of wonder that was palpable in her classroom daily. Her commitment and her gifts as a teacher reflect a profound understanding of the children she loved. Our prayers and our hearts go out to Matt, and to the Bailey and Chenet families. 

We have set up an Online Tribute Page for Jill and you are welcome to share your thoughts and tributes there. We are also focused on other ways to honor Jill's remarkable life including a gathering in memory of Jill at The River School after the start of the school year.
